Skycasters Continues Antenna Construction

Growth in technological infrastructure is essential for businesses that want to stay competitive in their industry. Investments in technology can allow companies to conduct business more efficiently, and provide better service for their customers. Skycasters is continuously working to improve our infrastructure, from upgrading our networks to expanding our satellite fleet. We started constructing another uplink antenna (Antenna 5) late last year, and we are anticipating its completion over the next couple months.

Antenna construction is a complex process involving many individuals, from suppliers, to engineers and city officials. Before construction began, the land had to be approved by zoning officials for commercial use. As our teleport sits on the approach for the Akron-Fulton airport, we had to have FAA approval of our plans. The FCC, of course, also had to give its blessing. Engineers determined the necessary antenna components, and Skycasters worked closely with our network of suppliers to select and purchase the equipment.

At the current phase of antenna construction, we have constructed the frame of the uplink antenna. Antenna components such as the kingpost, reflector, and service platform have all been assembled. The reflector, subreflector and feed are aligned, which means that the dish can properly focus the satellite beam. Still, more work needs to happen before the antenna can become fully functional. The indoor and outdoor control units need to be installed, as well as the heating and ventilation system. Once all the electronics are purchased and mounted, the whole system needs to be wired.

After the antenna construction is complete, Skycasters will be able to give our customers better service by transferring customer connections from the 6.3m uplink antennas to the new 8.1m dish. Because the new uplink antenna is larger in diameter, it will increase the signal quality and reduce rain fade for our clients. At Skycasters, we are committed to providing high quality satellite Internet for our customers. And investing in infrastructure improvements allows us to continue to provide the best service for our clients.
